PCC stands for power control centre. It sits close to the transformer or the main incoming supply and handles the big currents before power is split off to other panels. If an MCC is where individual motors get looked after, the PCC is where the plant's whole power supply gets controlled and protected.
What a PCC panel does in your plant
People often mix up PCC and MCC, so here is the short version. A PCC takes high current in and sends it to large loads and to downstream panels like MCCs and distribution boards. It usually carries air circuit breakers, heavy busbars and protection relays. Its job is power, not fine control of single motors.
Because the current is large, mechanical strength matters a lot. During a short circuit, the forces on busbars are enormous. We design busbar supports and the frame to withstand the rated fault level, and the enclosure is built from heavier sheet than a standard board. Safety comes first in this kind of panel.
Heavy busbars
Designed for high current and rated fault level.
ACB incomers
Air circuit breakers for large incoming and bus coupler duty.
Protection relays
Overcurrent, earth fault and other protections as needed.
Robust frame
Heavier sheet and reinforced structure for mechanical strength.
Coordinated settings
Breakers arranged so the nearest device trips first.
Monitoring options
Meters and communication for energy and load visibility.
Strength, coordination and safe operation
We also look at coordination between breakers, so that a fault downstream trips the nearest device instead of shutting down the whole plant. This takes some study of the settings, but it is worth doing. Metering, indication lamps and, if needed, communication with your monitoring system can be included.
If you are setting up a new plant or upgrading your main supply, get in touch with the transformer rating and connected load. We will suggest a suitable PCC layout and share drawings. Manufacturing and testing happen at our Greater Noida works, and we deliver across India.
Where it is commonly used
Before you place an order
The PCC is usually the first thing that receives power after the transformer, so every downstream panel depends on it. That is why it is worth paying attention to the details, including short-circuit rating, breaker choice and the way the busbar system is supported. Skimping here can put the entire plant at risk.
If your plant has more than one transformer, a bus coupler arrangement may be worth considering. It lets you feed the entire load from one transformer during maintenance or a fault. It needs proper interlocking, and we can design and build that as part of the PCC.
