Sometimes one generator is not enough, or one big set is not the smartest choice. Running two or more generators in parallel gives you flexibility. You can run only as many sets as the load needs and keep one in reserve. A DG synchronizing panel is what makes this possible without damaging the machines.
Why generators must be synchronised
Before two generators can share a load, they must match in voltage, frequency and phase angle. If they do not, the breaker closing between them can cause a violent mechanical shock. The synchronizing controller watches these values and closes the breaker only at the right moment, which protects both the engines and the alternators.
Once the sets are running together, load sharing takes over. Each generator should carry a fair portion of the load, according to its size. Controllers adjust engine speed and excitation to keep active and reactive power balanced. We also add protection for reverse power, overcurrent and other faults that could harm the alternators.
Automatic synchronising
Controller matches voltage, frequency and phase before closing.
Load sharing
Active and reactive power balanced between sets.
Reverse power protection
Guards a generator from being driven by others.
Auto start and stop
Additional sets start or stop with load demand.
Bus and breaker design
Heavy busbar with a breaker for each generator.
Mains interface
Optional changeover between generators and grid supply.
Load sharing and protection
The panel is built around a heavy busbar, with a breaker for each generator and an outgoing breaker to the plant. We can add automatic start and stop of extra sets depending on load, and a link with mains for changeover. Everything is documented, so your generator service engineer can work with it easily.
Tell us the number and rating of your generators, their make and how you intend to use them. We will suggest a suitable synchronizing arrangement. Testing is done at our Greater Noida workshop, and commissioning support can be arranged at your site.
Where it is commonly used
Before you place an order
Parallel operation gives flexibility, but it also brings complexity. All generators in the group should ideally have compatible controllers and governors, or the load sharing may not be smooth. If you are buying new sets, it is worth planning the panel and generators together so everything matches.
Commissioning is where most of the effort goes. Settings for droop, excitation and protection need careful adjustment on the actual sets. We can support this with drawings and settings guidance, and coordinate with your generator supplier so the whole system works as one.
