When the grid supply drops, the last thing anyone wants is to walk to a generator and start it by hand. An AMF panel, short for auto mains failure, does this on its own. It senses the loss of mains, starts the generator, waits for it to stabilise and moves the load across. When mains return, it switches back and stops the set.
How the AMF sequence works
The panel is built around a generator controller that watches voltage, frequency and the engine's own signals like oil pressure and temperature. We set delays carefully. There is a short wait before starting, in case the mains flicker back, and another before transferring load, so the generator is stable first.
The changeover itself uses either contactors or breakers with electrical and mechanical interlocks, so mains and generator can never feed the load at the same time. This is a serious safety point, and we do not compromise on it. Indication lamps, a manual override and an emergency stop are included as standard.
Automatic start
Generator starts when mains fail and stops after mains return.
Adjustable delays
Start, transfer and cooldown timings set for your site.
Safe changeover
Electrical and mechanical interlocks stop mains and generator overlapping.
Engine monitoring
Oil pressure, temperature and fuel signals through the controller.
Manual override
Operators can control the transfer by hand if needed.
Clear indication
Lamps and display show mains, generator and load status.
Safety interlocks and generator matching
AMF panels suit offices, hospitals, housing societies, data rooms, cold stores and factories. We build them for different generator sizes and can match the panel with the make of controller your generator supplier prefers. If your generator already has a controller, we can build around it.
Share the generator capacity, the load you wish to back up and the mains supply details. We will propose an AMF design with a clear price. Panels are tested for a full sequence of mains failure and return before we ship them from our Greater Noida unit.
Where it is commonly used
Before you place an order
Before buying, decide which loads truly need backup. Not everything in a building has to run from the generator, and backing up only essential circuits can allow a smaller set. We often help customers split their load into essential and non-essential feeders, which reduces both generator size and panel cost.
Regular testing is important. A generator that has not been run for months may not start when needed. Many customers set the panel to run a short weekly test, and keep the battery, fuel and coolant in good condition. The panel can do its part, but the generator has to be ready.
